Most teenage women face the unique challenge of applying makeup when pimples are prominent. There is a system to it that most women can follow that works quite well. The first step is to gently wash the face with cold water and soap. Then dab the face dry, carefully. After the face is dry, apply an astringent, which should be a part of every woman's beauty supplies. Almost any drugstore will carry something suitable to use as astringent. If you have several blemishes, try using a concealer or stick cover-up. This goes right on the blemish and can be blended in to hide the acne. Next, carefully use your fingers to apply foundation to the blemished area. Then continue with the rest of the face, applying foundation with the fingers. After these steps are complete, continue with standard application of the makeup, and follow up with an application of face powder. The end result should be less noticeable pimples.

Of course this is using standard makeup and the downside is that some makeup can clog the pores. Consider changing brands to a makeup that does not clog pores and perhaps even to a makeup that is designed specifically for teenagers who have acne problems. Many times these makeup will come with complete instructions. This can make the job a lot easier. Also these makeup products often contain a topical ingredient that kills bacteria and helps to clean out pores. Look for non-allergic makeup that can help reduced the redness and reactions of skin irritations.

In addition, preparation for application of makeup can be easier with proper hygiene. Over washing the face can actually damage the skin, but carefully washing the face once or twice a day, especially with cold water and a mild soap or cleanser can do wonders. Also proper skin care using moisturizers and exfoliants can help keep the skin clear and healthy and help to keep the acne problem in check.

Many young women choose to forego the wearing of makeup when acne is causing problems, but many teenage young women find that the anxiety of teenage years is lessened when one can wear makeup. Covering up the unsightly blemishes can raise their self-esteem. There is really no right or wrong concerning wearing make up over acne. Every young woman facing the problem of acne must make her own choice as to what is best for her in this instance. Just as young men must decide if shaving is something they want to engage in during acne outbreaks, young women must deal with acne and makeup.

Consulting a specialist in makeup can often be a good place to start when determining the type of makeup best to use during these years. Many department stores have makeup specialists who receive specialized training in this area. Most make up associates are particularly empathetic to the plight of the teenage girl, since they were once teenage girls themselves. Many of these department stores hold special workshops and seminars on makeup application, and those that cater to teenagers often take up the subject of acne blemishes and both how to cover them up properly and how to fight acne with proper skin care.

There are also direct sales organizations that specialize in providing high quality cosmetics to women, and many of these companies, with good reputations gained from years in the business, have specially designed products that fight acne and make the process of applying makeup during an outbreak easier than it used to be. Finding a good makeup artist who can help you with this process is a big help with the problem of acne and makeup application.

One tip that can help teenage girls that enjoy wearing makeup is to try several special products and visit local make up counters at the malls and department stores. This can help young girls find make up and other facial products that are helpful. When visiting department stores to find a specific brand of make up, try several lines and colors. Also, build trust with the sales associate so that you can get better tips about makeup. Make sure they understand that you suffer from acne and are looking for products to lessen the severity of outbreaks.

Actions to Avoid When Clearing Up Acne

There are many good and bad points to keep in mind when clearing up acne. Most of the good tips are usually a matter of common sense. Eat right, exercise, take vitamins and keep fit. Your immune system will fight off acne if you keep it strong. If you use medication, either prescription or over the counter, follow the directions you are given. Stay out of the sun. Use proper hygiene.

The list of "don'ts" might not be as obvious, but it is equally important. To start with, don't pop pimples. Many well meaning people will tell you to do so, but do not try this method. The result can make the problem worse. You could wind up driving the bacteria deeper into the skin or spreading the bacteria to other parts of the skin. This can create an infection that can be painful and just make the acne problem bigger.

Next, and perhaps most important, do not assume that everyone who gives you advice knows how properly handle acne outbreaks. Many people are well intentioned, but wrong. They will tell you to avoid fried foods, avoid chocolate, and get out in the sun. However, this advice is not accurate and can often lead to bigger issues. Regarding chocolate and fried foods, remember that while good nutrition is important and recommended, as is regular exercise, there is no medical or scientific data that shows a relationship of any kind between diet and acne. The old chocolate and fried foods myth is just that, a myth. Listen to what others say, but remember that you can still eat the foods you enjoy and take care of your skin.

If you are a man and are having a bad acne outbreak, be careful shaving. You may want to shave in patches on your face, use an electric razor, or simply wait and shave after the outbreak dissipates. If you are a woman, be careful during makeup application. Use makeup that do not clog pores, and if possible switch to makeup that includes antibacterial topical ointments as ingredients. If possible take a short class or seminar to learn the proper way to apply makeup during an acne outbreak.

Next, despite what some people have told you, the sun does not cure acne. If you go out in the sun remember that it can be hard on your skin. Wear sunglasses, wear a hat, and wear a sun blocking lotion or ointment. Go to the pharmacy and find a sunscreen that does not clog pores and you will be much better off and happier.

Do not wash your face to excess. Once or twice a day, gentle washing with cold water, and a mild soap or cleanser is all you need. Excessive washing of the face can damage the skin and lead to more acne problems.

If you are using a topical ointment, continue to do so. Make sure that is helps to unclog pores and kills bacteria, and choose an ointment that bacteria do not grow resistant to. Bacteria in the pores collects with dead skin and oil and grows, creating pimples that can be quite painful. Taking steps to keep pores unclogged and keeping bacteria in check will lead to fewer pimples, and hopefully they won't last as long. You can't give rid of pimples entirely, but you can reduce the numbers.

Don't think that you are alone in this. All teenagers have acne problems. All adults were once teenagers and went through the same thing you are going through now. People understand, so do not be embarrassed. Many teenagers make the mistake of letting acne ruin their self-esteem. They become embarrassed to go to school or to visit friends because of the large zit on the nose. Just remember that everyone has had a large zit on their nose at one time or another, and don't worry about it.

Also it is important to remember that if the acne problem is becoming worse, don't hesitate to consult a professional. A dermatologist can help you if your acne is out of control. See a medical professional and get information on all of the treatments available. Hormone treatment, topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics and even alternative treatments like acupuncture, light therapy and topical applications like tea tree oil area available. Take advantage of the fact that professionals are available who understand your problem and if you need one, consult one.

Dairy consumption has been positively linked to acne for many teenagers and adults. There have been numerous studies proving this association, including a portion of the landmark Nurses Health Study involving 47,355 women in 1998. Unfortunately, the reasons behind this milk-acne connection are much less concrete.

Regardless, the facts are that thousands of people have given up dairy foods only to have their acne magically disappear. The results these people have seen speak for themselves and they need no particular explanation. For those of you who are still hesitant on the trial and error method, here are a few different theories behind their success:

Milk Allergies - Like eczema, acne is an inflammatory skin condition, and can be a byproduct of food allergies. In fact, it is believed that food allergies, particularly dairy and gluten, are the top aggravator of acne. Since acne does take time to come and go, and many food allergy reactions are delayed, about two weeks off of a suspect food is typically required to begin noticing results.

Hormones - Of course, the teenager with raging hormones and raging zits, it is an all to common site. Hormones are a well-accepted reason for acne within the dermatologic community. It has been estimated that 75% to 90% of milk and milk products on our shelves comes from pregnant cows due to the milking process. This milk contains progesterone and other hormones that are known precursors to DHT, the primary acne-producing hormone in humans. These hormones are carried primarily in the butterfat, and are known to make frequent appearances in milk, cheese, and butter. You mean pizza may be back on the acne list? Dermatologists are split on this issue, but past research shows a strong likelihood.

Nutrients - Back in the 1960's, Dr. Jerome K. Fisher conducted a clinical study on the cause and effect relationship of milk and acne for a presentation to the American Dermatological Association. His research looked at over 1000 teenage acne patients over a 10-year period. He quickly noted that the severity of their acne and whether it worsened was directly correlated to their milk consumption. Along with the hormones in milk, Dr. Fisher hypothesized that milk sugar (lactose) and butterfat could be acne triggers. It has also been found that milk can contain excessive quantities of iodine (may vary by herd), a well-known pore irritator and aggravator of acne.

Most dermatologists recognize the crucial role that diet plays in skin conditions, and many site milk products as the top food culprit of acne. Dairy elimination may not be the solution for everyone, but something so simple to get rid of acne is definitely worth a shot!

"Acne Home Remedies by Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Diet and Good Nutrition Good nutrition is the foundation for healthy skin. A well-balanced diet will ensure that your body receives the vitamins and mineral it needs to support and maintain the health of the skin. Foods rich in sulphur, such as onions and garlic, may be particularly helpful to those who suffer from acne. There are also several nutritional supplements that may be helpful in the maintenance of healthy skin. Supplements of b-complex vitamins as well as vitamin C, and A are very important for the strength, growth, and vitality of the skin. Vitamin E and the mineral zinc orotate are also useful supplements as they both contain antioxidants that can help protect the skin from damage. And don't underestimate the power of water. Water helps to hydrate the skin, plump up the glands, and move waste and nutrients through the system. Plan on drinking at least six to eight glasses of purified water each day to keep skin healthy and deter the development of acne. We recommend using a Wellness Water purification system available at

Cleansing In order to prevent or alleviate acne, you need to keep you skin nourished from the inside and clean on the outside. People who suffer from acne need to be especially careful about the methods and products used to cleanse the skin.

Choose gentle herbal facial cleansers and moisturizers, and use them at least twice throughout the day to remove debris, oil, perspiration, and pollutants that have built up on the skin. There are several products on the market that are made exclusively for acne-prone skin. These products are designed to reduce the incidence of acne breakouts. The best product available is Oxy-Skin?. A non-oily face wash that contains tea tree oil or echinacea can also help to slow or halt the development of acne. Excessive washing will not help reduce acne, and in fact it can actually aggravate it. Rather, wash your face twice a day in the morning and evenings and rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Moisturizers and Cosmetics As with facial cleansers, be sure to choose moisturizers and cosmetics that will work well with your skin type. Avoid oily cosmetics or any facial products that contain socetyl stearate, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate, parabens and sodium chloride, as these ingredients can cause acne.

Cosmetics are a major cause of acne breakouts for adult women. Wear the least amount of makeup you feel comfortable with, to avoid irritation to your skin and allow your skin to receive an ample supply of oxygen.

Hands Off! As hard as it can be to resist, picking or squeezing at pimples or blemishes will really only make them worse. In fact, it can cause open sores that lead to infection. Normally, a pimple will last any where from one to four weeks. But it will go away on its own. And picking or squeezing it will not make it go away any faster.

Herbal Acne Remedies Herbal remedies can be very useful in the treatment and prevention of acne. Chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can all be used to reduce toxicity in the skin and improve its overall condition. Other herbs like echinacea and poke root have anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce the swelling and reduce of the blocked oil gland. Red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action and witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective for cleansing acne prone skin.

Homemade Acne Remedies In addition to store bought herbal and conventional acne preparation. There are several recipes that you can make at home to treat your acne prone skin. Poultices: You can make a poultice out of several natural ingredients and apply it to the affected area. Here are a few poultice combinations that are useful in the treatment and prevention of acne. Unless the directions state otherwise, apply these poultices directly to the acne affected area and wash off thoroughly after twenty to thirty minutes.

Ginger and milk oHoney and cinnamon (Use this poultice at night and remove it the next morning with warm water.) Ground orange peel and water Salt and vinegar oTurmeric and vinegar Lemon juice and cinnamon Ground sesame seeds and water (This poultice is especially effective at reducing inflammation.)

Topical Acne Treatments: You can use the following treatments to target specific acne related problems like swelling or redness. oRub fresh garlic on acne at frequent intervals to acne to reduce both redness and swelling. oUse the juice of a fresh, raw papaya to relieve swelling acne. oRub fresh mint juice over acne to shrink inflamed acne. oDrink wheat grass juice to prevent and cure acne.

How to Quickly Cure Acne

>>  Dont Even Think Of Buying Other Product UNTILL YOU READ THIS. 100% ACNE FREE IN 3 DAYS <<

Many treatments for acne claim long term success over a few weeks, or even months, but what if you don't have time to wait so long? Often times a week can be too long, and a month is completely out of the question. While acne medicines can be hit or miss, and there is never a guarantee on which treatment will work best, there are certain signs to look for to help hedge your bets and to give you the best chance of a very quick cure to your acne problem.

First of all, herbal remedies are out. While many people have found herbal remedies to be a reliable cure, they also have a reputation for taking a much longer time to kick in. Since the goal to cure your acne as quickly as possible, the extra time constraint is out of the question. This still leaves shelves and shelves of acne medicine to sift through. While there isn't one single medicine that's proven to be perfect (if there was, there wouldn't be any competition), there are certain things you can look for. For example, you can find out about a lot of these things from

When looking for acne medicine, look for one that advertises itself as "proactive." Sometimes a person has a problem because the acne is being cured decently enough, but the medicine does not prevent new acne, and so the person suffers a vicious cycle where it seems like nothing ever helps. Proactive medicine will help prevent future outbreaks, which means that you will be able to tell quickly if the treatment medicine is working or not. Often times proactive acne medicines will also be among the strongest. If you are insistent on actually using an herbal medicine, find one with Chamomile. Chamomile eases itching and speeds the healing process. That is perhaps the best property of Chamomile, and the main reason it has become so popular.

Another option is a chemical peel. Chemical peels can range from light to moderate to heavy. Heavy chemical peels should only be applied by dermatologists. Moderate peels can usually be received at a beauty salon, and mild peels can be mixed and made at home. A chemical peel is a very popular and effective acne treatment. It is sometimes referred to as a derma-peel, and has the benefit of not being surgery. A peel can have the dual effect of not only removing acne, but a chemical mixture to the skin. This should be only a thin layer, which is then peeled away after it dries. It removes with it the outer layer of damaged skin, revealing new healthy skin underneath. This can often times expatiate the healing process.

During this time it is a good idea to take vitamin supplements. Vitamins E and zinc support a body's immune system, which translates to increased healing and health, which then translates to giving your body the best chance of fighting acne. Every little thing can help, and make sure to cut back on the sugar, while eating more fruit and veggies. None of these things individually cure acne by themselves, but they do work great in conjunction with a medication or treatment.

One way to look is to find a special light. Studies have been done about UV treatments, and it was found that people who got a lot of sunlight tended to also get less acne problems. Special lights were developed to have the same effect, without the harmful effects, and early tests showed that for a lot of people only a couple of days of sitting by these lights showed a drastic improvement in condition. Coupled with an actual medication treatment, this could be a very powerful and successful way to remove acne quickly.

The other thing you need to consider is to avoid doing anything that you know might worsen the situation. If sugars and sweet foods make you break out, don't eat any. Same with red meat. Don't scrub your face to the point where you aggravate the skin, and be mindful of all the little things that can help, or worsen, the problem. Sometimes the quickest way to cure a bad case of acne is to mind all the details and stop all the little habits that are making the outbreaks so frequent. Even curbing yourself from one or two bad habits might make the acne medicine you are already using that much more effective.

Though the small details may seem unimportant, especially when time is a factor, it doesn't make sense to grab a strong medicine, or spend the money on a UV light or chemical peel only to do all the little things wrong and invite the acne back. The key here is combination, because having five little things and a strong medication going your way will always be better than one strong medication and five little things going against you. Remember that, and your acne will disappear far more quickly then if you ignore the details.

Individuals who are experiencing acne breakouts, either serious or not, may receive a medical prescribtion from their doctor which may help heal their skin condition. A few of these medications may be topical or those that are applied on the top of the skin, others are methodical or the drugs that are taken orally. Retin-A

Retin-A is a current medicine obtained from Vitamin A's retinoid metabolite. It increases cell turnover and free blocked materials from the hair follicles. It is also known to decrease the formation of new acne but improves the appearance of wrinkles. In several cases, this medicine enhances the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight and irritation. A considerable side effect of this medication is extreme drying of the skin which can develop into red, swollen and blistered condition. It is also recommended that people with already sunburned skins must not apply this drug.

Oral Antibiotics

In alliance with numerous actual drugs, oral medications may be prescribed by a dermatologist. Still, target bacteria may reveal immunity to some antibiotics. In cases comparable to this, different medicines may be considered. As with oral antibiotics, up to date antimicrobials may goal the identical bacteria or may be used straight on the existing spot of acne infection. Spironolactone Acne Treatment

Spironolactone is a diuretic known for its potassium-sparing properties. It was first designed to reduce body fluids without depleting the potassium level of the body. For the interest of people who suffers from acne, Spironolactone can reduce the production of androgens, the specific hormones excreted to activate the production of sebum, the oily substance found on the skin. If this sebum is trapped in the hair follicles, it may cause the onset of acne outburst. As a result, the control in androgen release would diminish the possibility of acne infection and infection.

However, in taking Spironolactone, there are several considerations which must be identified both by the physician and the patient. This is due to the fact that there are certain medications and health conditions that may be significantly affected through the use of this diuretic. It is equally significant to note the side effects of this drug to the body conditions to equate the benefits of this drug. Some side effects may include skin allergies, diarrhea, muscle cramps and nausea. This medication, if taken under extreme control of a physician may confirm as an effective way of reducing the risks of acne.

Doxycycline Treatment

Doxycycline is a frequent medication used against mild inflaming acne infection. This antibiotic is known to minimize the impact of the attacks of the bacteria that clog within the hair follicles which in effect, cause the acne outbreaks. This drug is also noted to cure a host of other diseases and ailments such as gum disease, urinary tract infections and a number of sexually-transmitted diseases.

Typically, this medication can grow the individuals susceptibility to sun's harmful radiations. If exposure to sun cannot be avoided, then it is best to apply sunscreens or employ the use of protective clothing. At any rate, acne-inflicted individuals must never be allowed to over-expose their skin to sunlight.

Minocycline Treatment

Minocycline is derived of tetracycline, very often used for acne treatment. Children age must not take this medication as it will reduce the development of teeth and bones. As with the doxycycline, minocycline can effectively decrease the potency of the bacteria thriving in the skin pores. Along with acne, it is also noted to efficiently provide treatment for other bacterial skin infections.

Dealing With Acne As An Adult

Let me start out by telling you all about my pain from this sore subject. I had my first breakout at the age of nine. I have dealt with this problem for nearly twenty years. I come from a family that has also dealt with acne. This is both good and bad. Let me explain. Having excessively oily skin has benefits. As I age, I don't have the worry of premature winkles. My great grandmother lived to be almost ninety-five years old and she only had a few wrinkles at the end of her time here on earth. My uncle grew up with extremely severe acne and is scarred from it. He tried everything to treat his acne and nothing seemed to work for him. He later had plastic surgery to remove scar tissue from his face and neck. My mother being of a certain age, I will not say what it is, but she has only a few wrinkles and looks beautiful. The oils in our skin, helps to keep us looking young.

From my experience, I found that by experimenting with a variety of products that I will find what works best for me. Some people will disagree with this, but I know my skin better than anyone else.

Acne products can be helpful in minimizing breakouts. I have tried several. Some of them work and some of them do not.

As a child, growing up with acne, I was teased and called mean names. Pizza face, scar face, crater face, (from the scarring) and I'm sure many more. As I have grown to accept this as a part of myself, I found that there are ways of dealing with it. I don't think that I am ugly, because I have acne.

I have talked to a lot of people about acne. I've visited a doctor. He prescribed a cream and an oral antibiotic. This worked for a while. The cream dried out my acne but it also made my skin dry and irritated.

I read in a magazine article that said; something in milk might cause acne. I don't know that it was factual information. I did however test this theory. I omitted milk from my diet for a week to see if anything changed. I found that my acne increased.

How many people do you know that deal with acne on a daily basis? Five? Ten? Twenty? I guess that depends on where you are in your life and your social circle. Try something for me. Ask all of those people how many acne products they have tried, and what was the out come of their process?

I ask people I come in contact with all the time. Some people are embarrassed by it, but they are always happy to tell you what they have tried and what has or hasn't worked for them. Just remember to be sensitive when you ask them, you don't want to offend them.

I have had a lot of people tell me that they get a lot of breakouts along their chins. I do too. What I do for that is give that area of your face an extra washing and rinse it twice. That happens because your acne product isn't completely rinsed off of your face and the build up from the product can hold bacteria and cause another flair up.

I learned early on in the journey to a clear complexion that other products that you use play a big part in your acne flair ups. I have learned to read labels. Read the ingredients in the products that you use. When you go shopping look for oil in the ingredients list. Avoid products with oil in them as much as you can. They may not be used on your face, but the likely hood that you use them and touch your face after that is very likely. That is just something to be aware of. It has helped me a lot.

Remember that you aren't alone in the battle with acne. I am writing this article because I want to help as many people as I can. I know the pain you are dealing with. I have been dealing with the emotional scars that it leaves. I look in the mirror and hope that it's gone.

I want to know what you have tried. What acne products have you used? What kind of acne treatment programs have you tried? Tell me your success stories. Share with me your pain. It feels good to talk about it.
